How this GPA calculator works
Each letter grade maps to a grade point on the standard unweighted 4.0 scale (shown below). Your GPA is the credit-weighted average of those grade points: multiply each class's grade point by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by your total credit hours. Leave every class at 1 credit if your school doesn't use weighted credit hours — the math still works the same way, it'll just be a simple average.

Note on weighted (honors/AP) GPA
Some schools add extra points for honors or AP classes (often +0.5 or +1.0 per class) on top of this standard scale. This calculator uses the standard (unweighted) scale above — if your school weights honors/AP classes, add that bonus to the affected class's grade point yourself — or use our weighted GPA calculator, which handles the honors/AP bumps for you.
